Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
In 1939 Robert L. May, a copywriter working at Chicago's Montgomery Ward & Co., wrote a holiday story at the request of his employer. Almost two and a half million copies of the little tale about a reindeer with a shiny red nose were given away to all the children who visited Montgomery Ward stores that year. The rest is history. Seventy-five years later, the beloved classic is once again available in a hardcover faithful facsimile of the 1939 Rudolph, with original text and original Denver Gillen illustrations.

About Applewood Books
Applewood Books, an American Publisher, tells the authentic stories of people, places, ideas, and history. Our enduring work engages cultural travelers, enriches community, and informs future stewards. We celebrate our beginnings in 1973, when our founder Phil Zuckerman drove his ’53 Saab from Denver to Boston loaded up with a letterpress, an extra engine, and all his worldly possessions. After a few years learning hand bookbinding, paper making, and editing, Phil launched Applewood Press on July 4, 1976 as America celebrated its 200th anniversary of independence. We have since grown from these roots to publish a diverse range of quality and best-selling books—fiction and non-fiction, for adults and children—that inform, entertain, and delight cultural travelers.
